The aim of this course is to provide a solid understanding about Licensing and the added-value provided by the Joinup Licensing Assistant in this regard in order to support the target audience to define the conditions under which a certain solution may be freely shared and reused. In order to do that, the course covers the below four topics:
1. Overview: Open licensing in general; 
2. Key Components of Joinup Licensing Assistant;
3. Demonstration of the Joinup Licensing Assistant (JLA) and practical information, and;
4. Assessment.

Target audience

This course has a broad audience, from IT professionals to public servants working in the field of digitalisation and in the domain of integration of public services, i.e. IT developers, lawyers, Policy makers, Civil Servants.

The current course provides an extreme added-value to IT professionals in particular, as it gives insights on how to select the proper licence for ICT products and solutions.
The course offers an introduction to the topic. 

Learning objectives

At the end of this course, learners should be able to:

  • Provide the definition of interoperability, European Interoperability Framework and the main barriers for achieving interoperability.
  • Discuss the aim and use of Sharing and Reuse Framework for IT Solutions and European Union Public Licence (EUPL).
  • Understand what is Joinup and its benefits.
  • Articulate the need for Joinup Licensing Assistant and its key components.
  • Use the Joinup Licensing Assistant to find and compare software licenses.
