Welcome to the course Innovative Teaching and Learning Strategies!
It is really a great pleasure to welcome you in this learning journey and learn together with you for the next two weeks!
Before we start, we would like to highlight the timeline of this course to help you plan your learning and successfully complete the course.
The course is divided into 4 main modules including a final assignment:
- Module 1: Teaching and Guidance
- Module 2: Collaborative Learning
- Module 3: Self-regulated Learning
- Module 4: Emerging Technologies

How to complete this course
- Optional activities. The course offers you optional activities and it is up to you to decide whether to complete them. However, we highly recommend you choose the ones that interest you the most, as this will help you to gain more ideas and successfully complete the final assignment.
- Mandatory activities. At the end of the course, there will be one mandatory submission of two activities. Participants will be asked to submit one document with two, to be peer assessed, activities. In these activities, participants have to showcase their understanding of the learning objectives of the modules. Complete the mandatory activity to receive a certification of course completion. Be mindful of the start dates and deadlines!
We highly encourage you to complete your personal digital portfolio that integrates your learnings from the course. This portfolio will serve as a testament to your proficiency in professional engagement, resource management, innovative teaching practices, assessment methods, learner empowerment, and fostering digital competence. Course competences
The recipient of this certificate has demonstrated proficiency of the following competences according to the digital competence framework of the European Commission's SELFIE for TEACHERs tool:
- Teaching (designing, developing and implementing learning with the use of digital technologies to enhance learning outcomes)
- Guidance (using digital technologies in order to provide feedback and opportunities for reflection, leading to readjustment of teaching and learning practices for both teachers and learners)
- Collaborative Learning (using digital technologies to foster and enhance learner collaboration for individual and collective learning)
- Self-regulated learning (using digital technologies to enhance students' self-regulated learning processes, fostering active and autonomous learning making students more responsible for their own learning, thereby shifting the focus from teaching to learning)
- Emerging technologies (Using emerging technologies in ethical ways to explore novel learning experiences and content).

Behind the course
Course Designer – Alexandra Almpanidou
Alexandra Almpanidou works for the European School Education Platform and eTwinning as a Pedagogical Coordinator contributing to numerous projects. She holds a a master’s degree in Curriculum Design and Innovation, and is experienced with the development of professional development activities for teachers including workshops, trainings and conferences, as well as the design, coordination and moderation of online courses (short and long).
Course Designer – Kira Drost
Kira Drost works for the European School Education Platform and eTwinning as a Pedagogical Officer on several projects. She holds a bachelor's in International Teachers Education for Primary Schools and does a master's degree in Educational Sciences. She is experienced in developing professional development activities for teachers as well as designing online courses.
Supporting Expert – Panagiotis Kampylis
Panagiotis is a Digital Transformation Policy and Data Analyst at the Greek National Documentation Centre and adjunct lecturer at the department of Digital Systems, University of Piraeus. His work and interests are at the meeting point of lifelong learning, employment and digital transformation, with over 18 years of research, policy advice, and project work. He graduated from Jyvaskyla University (Finland) in 2010 with his PhD in fostering students´ creative thinking . He worked from 2012 to 2020 as project and team leader at the European Commission´s Joint Research Centre, where among other projects, he led the development of the European Framework for Digitally-Competent Educational Organisations (DigCompOrg), the development of SELFIE tool for schools' digital capacity and also contributed highly to the development of the Entrepreneurship Competence Framework ( EntreComp). His research interests include digital and entrepreneurship competences, creativity, computational thinking, innovation, and digital transformation of economy and society. He has published extensively in these fields (more than 5200 citations, h-index 27, i10-index 38) and delivered keynotes at various events.
Course Moderator – Stavroula Skiada
Stavroula is a Computer Science and ICT teacher. She is a strong educational professional with a Master of Computer Applications in Open and Distance Learning and a Bachelor of Applied Informatics. Awarded eTwinner, Scientix Ambassador, STE(A)M educator, Micro:bit Champion and Intel® SFI Ambassador. Continually seeking to stay abreast of emerging technologies and pedagogical approaches. Possessing innovative teaching methodologies, leveraging hands-on projects and real-world applications to engage students with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in today's digital age. Highly interested in robotics and coding, Artificial Intelligence and STE(A)M.
