Good news for everyone in Lahti area!

The City of Lahti has launched a pioneering pilot to promote textile waste recycling and address its environmental impact. Millions of tonnes end up in landfills each year, urging us to find more effective solutions. This programme incentivises locals to bring their textile waste to a pop-up collection point at a local shopping centre in exchange for vouchers redeemable at local cafés or outdoor pools.

Processing takes place at Finland's largest facility in Paimio, where recycled fibres are used for new products such as threads, insulation materials and acoustic panels. This innovative approach provides an attractive incentive while also reducing the amount of textiles going into landfill sites - helping protect our planet from further damage caused by discarded clothing items..

By introducing this deposit system with incentives, Lahti is leading the way on tackling global issues related to textile waste disposal – setting an example that other cities can follow when it comes to finding sustainable solutions for managing these kinds of resources responsibly.
