Dear learners, 

Whenever you go abroad, it's good to learn a few basic phrases, especially if you're moving there for a longer time! That's why we've put together a short list of greetings in Estonian that will surely come in handy and when you pull these tricks out of your pocket, they'll be highly appreciated by your Estonian friends.

  • Hello – Tere

  • Goodbye – Headaega

  • Good morning – Tere hommikust

  • Good day (when greeting) – Tere päevast 

  • Good day (when saying goodbye) – Head päeva

  • Good evening (when greeting) – Tere õhtust

  • Good evening (when saying goodbye) – Head õhtut
     

  • My name is … – Minu nimi on

  • What is your name? – Mis on sinu nimi? 

  • Nice to meet you – Meeldiv tutuvda
     

  • How are you? – Kuidas läheb?

  • I’m fine thank you – Hästi, äitah
     

  • Please – Palun

  • Thank you – Aitäh

  • Excuse me – Vabandust
