You might have been wondering what you can do in Slovakia this summer, as days are getting hotter and you might have more free time during these months. The truth is that there are indeed a lot of options which you can choose from here, so you have a lot to look forward to! Summer in Slovakia is a season of vibrant festivals, outdoor adventures and many cultural events . For locals and foreigners alike, there’s no shortage of events and activities to enjoy. Here’s a guide to the best summer events and typical activities that Slovaks love.

Summer festivals

One of the most popular options which you can try is to attend one of the many music festivals which happen every year in different cities and places all around Slovakia. For instance, the Pohoda music festival held in Trenčín is one of the highlights in summer. It attracts international and local artists for a celebration of music, dance, theater, literature, and visual arts, so if you enjoy music and art you definitely shouldn't miss out. Other festivals which you could consider and are very popular among Slovaks are The Grape Festival in Piešťany airport or “the Viva Musica !” in Bratislava.

If you are interested more in typical slovak culture though, you should visit a folk festival called Jánošíkové dni, which will take place between July and August in a very traditional slovak village called Terchová. You will be able to see typical Slovak costumes and dances, together with traditional instruments such as fujara or cimbal.

Hiking and nature walks

As you probably know, there are plenty of opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts in Slovakia, among which is undoubtedly hiking and spending time outdoors and in nature. The most popular and also visited ones include High Tatras, High and Low Fatra or Slovak paradise. There are also some places where you can spend the night, such as Zbojnícka or Téryho chata in the mountains for those of you who are even more adventurous types.

Cycling, camping and more

Cycling is another way how you can take advantage of warm summer days, as long as you take enough precautions against sun and hot weather. You can take routes such as Danube Cycle Path and trails through the Slovak wine country, which will undoubtedly get you picturesque views and unforgettable memories.

Many slovak people love to take tents and camp with friends during the summer, whether it is in nature or near bigger lakes such as Liptovská Mara. If you have a group of friends with similar interests, you should definitely give it a chance, as there are many places where you can easily do it, while enjoying surroundings around you.

If you have enough hot days however, try exploring one of the many caves that are located in Slovakia, such as Demänovská Cave of Liberty or Belianska Cave.

In any case, try to get out the most of this summer in Slovakia and enjoy it to the fullest!
