Hello community!
Held annually in September, European Heritage Days events—also known as Heritage Open Days—are organized in the countries that are part of the European Cultural Convention.
During this period, numerous monuments and sites open their doors to the public, offering free visits that allow Europe’s citizens to explore their shared cultural heritage.
In Romania, the European Heritage Days are taking place on September 21st!
Since its inception in 1985 by the Council of Europe, the European Heritage Days have been celebrated to raise awareness of Europe's rich and diverse cultural heritage. This initiative was further endorsed by the European Union in 1999, making it a joint action that brings together millions of people every year across 50 countries. The aim is to promote understanding and preservation of cultural heritage, encourage appreciation of historical landmarks, and foster a sense of shared identity among the citizens of the European Union.
This year, the theme in Romania is “Cultural Corridors, European Routes of Heritage Objectives,” which highlights the movement and connections between people, goods, and ideas.
Developed from this shared theme, Zilele Europene ale Patrimoniului in Romania will feature guided trails, the opening of historic buildings, and exhibitions showcasing both built and intangible heritage. You can expect a variety of events designed for young people like you, making it a fantastic day to explore more of the city you are in!
Happy European Heritage Days!
