Labas everyone!

Just like the British, Lithuanians also love to talk about the weather!

So today, I’d like to talk about the weather and how to describe it in Lithuanian. Since autumn has already begun, the weather is bound to change, so it could be helpful to learn some vocabulary related to it.

Describing the weather in Lithuanian involves using various phrases and words to express different weather conditions. Here are some common weather-related terms in Lithuanian:

  • Saulėta – Sunny
  • Debesuota – Cloudy
  • Šilta – Warm
  • Šalta – Cold
  • Vėjuota – Windy
  • Lyja – Rain
  • Šlapdriba – Drizzle
  • Sniegas – Snow
  • Šlapia – Wet
  • Ruduo – Autumn
  • Žiema – Winter
  • Pavasaris – Spring
  • Vasara – Summer

You can combine these terms with verbs and adjectives to describe the weather. For example:

  • "Šiandien yra saulėta." (Today is sunny.)
  • "Vakar buvo debesuota." (Yesterday was cloudy.)
  • "Šią savaitę bus šilta ir saulėta." (It will be warm and sunny this week.)
  • "Rytą buvo labai šalta." (It was very cold this morning.)
  • "Vėjas šiandien pučia labai stipriai." (The wind is blowing very strongly today.)
  • "Lyja nuo ryto iki vakaro." (It’s raining from morning until evening.)

You can adjust these phrases to describe different weather conditions or forecasts.

Did you already know some of these words and phrases?

Let's talk!
