Hello everyone
We have started an initiative called “User Stories”, where we interview members who have experience living abroad to learn a new language and who have participated in OLS. This is a great way for us to learn more about you and inspire others on a similar journey, but it will also be an opportunity for you to practice your new language skills. This exercise will be to help you form sentences about our daily lives and cultural observations, getting you started with vocabulary to help you express your experience in Danish.
What is the Objective:
Describe your experience living in Denmark using simple sentences and vocabulary you’ve learned in class.
Instructions:
Write a short letter to a family member or friend.
Describe where you live, what you’re studying, and any interesting experiences or new things you've learned about Danish culture.
Use the template and vocabulary below to help structure your letter.
Template Example:
Kære John,
Hvordan går det? Jeg bor nu i Danmark og har mange spændende oplevelser! Jeg bor i København H, og jeg studerer Matematik. Min hverdag her er anderledes, og jeg lærer mange nye ting.
Jeg elsker at gå på tur, og jeg har også prøvet en dejlig “frokostbord”. Det er sjovt og anderledes!
Jeg savner dig og glæder mig til at fortælle mere om mit ophold her.
Kærlig hilsen, Alison
Suggested Vocabulary:
spændende (exciting)
oplevelse (experience)
by (city)
hverdag (everyday life)
lære (learn)
savne (miss)
fortælle (tell)
Extra Challenge: Describe one specific Danish custom or activity that you’ve found interesting or surprising.
Good luck and please let me know if there are questions. I look forward to reading your answers in the comment section below this exercise, or in a private message to myself so we can check your work.
