'Cad iad do rúin don Athbhliain?' a d'fhiafraigh a máthair.

'Ba mhaith liom Gaeilge a fhoghlaim níos fearr,' arsa Máire.

Nuair a bhuail an clog meán oíche, d'oscail siad an doras agus chan siad amhrán. 'Athbhliain faoi mhaise!' a bhéic siad le chéile."

Translation:

"It was New Year's Eve. The house was clean and the candles were lit. Máire and her family were waiting for the clock to strike midnight.

'What are your New Year's resolutions?' asked her mother.

'I would like to learn Irish better,' said Máire.

When the clock struck midnight, they opened the door and sang a song. 'Happy New Year!' they shouted together."
