Happy Sami National Day!
Maybe you already have heard of the Sami people? They are the only indigineus people in Europe and they are spread over the Nordic regions of Finland, Norway and Sweden, and even Russia.
Reindeer herding is an integral part of Sami livelihoods and even today there are over 4200 reindeer owners in Finland. The ownership is steadily declining, in comparison 1990 there was over 7500 reindeer owners. Reideers are a semi-tamed animals that are used for meat, transportation and even as pets. There are also reindeer races, as you can read from › Finnish Sports and Games.
