As Valentine’s Day is approaching, it's a perfect time for Erasmus students to explore how this special day is celebrated in different parts of the world. Living abroad gives you a unique chance to see how other cultures express love and affection on this day. For instance, in Slovakia, it's common for couples to exchange flowers and sweets, but in your host country, the traditions may be completely different. In Japan, Valentine’s Day involves women giving chocolates to men, while in Denmark, people exchange pressed white flowers called "snowdrops." Experiencing these new customs firsthand can give you a fresh perspective on the holiday.

Being an Erasmus student, you might also notice how Valentine’s Day isn’t always just about romantic love—it can be a celebration of friendships and other meaningful relationships, especially when you're far from home. The day can be a chance to strengthen connections with your fellow Erasmus students or even make new friends in your host country.

How are you planning to celebrate Valentine's day while abroad? Let us know in the comments below!
