Dear Community,
Have you heard of Busójárás, the exciting winter festival in Hungary? Every year in Mohács,between 27th Feb and 4th March people wear scary wooden masks and woolly cloaks, making loud noises to scare away winter and welcome spring. The tradition comes from the Šokci (a South Slavic ethnic group) and has been celebrated for centuries.
During the festival, busós (masked figures) parade through the town, row across the Danube, and even play pranks on people! The event is filled with folk music, dancing, and traditional foods like fánk (Hungarian doughnuts).
Have you ever participated in or seen a similar festival in your country?
What do you think about using masks and noise to “chase away” winter?
Would you like to experience Busójárás in Mohács?
