May Day Celebrations - Hyvää Vappua!
One of the biggest Finnish celebratory events is the 1 May celebration! This is a notable day especially for students. You can read more about the students' partypants, which are a very good outfit for all kinds of exercises and activities. They protect your regular clothes.
You can read our May Day blog post here: › Hyvää Vappua. In the article you can find a traditional sima recipe and list of statues that have official white cap ceremonies performed on them.
For your May Day picnic you can prepare a picnic basket for example like this:
- Baguettes, stuffed or plain, you can pick cream cheese or pates on a tube for convenient filling
- Carelian pies or mini carnelian pies, bake them ready at home
- Hot tea or coffee on a thermos
- Smoked salmon cutlets for bread/pie toppings
- Popcorn fits any day!
- Potato salad
- Small cakes or a big one for the whole group to share
- Bubbly pop soda drink
- Don't forget paper wrapped candies and chocolates!
- Eclairs, muffins, chocolate cornettos
Hyvää vappua kaikille!
