Dear Community,
Whether you’ve just arrived or have been here for a while, there are always those little things you only learn once you're actually living in Hungary. Let’s help future Erasmus students and ESC volunteers by sharing what surprised us—or what we wish someone had told us earlier!
What do you wish you had known before moving to Hungary?
You can talk about:
-
Cultural habits or social norms
-
Cost of living or practical tips (public transport, grocery shopping, etc.)
-
Language surprises
-
University life, work culture, or volunteering experiences
-
Bureaucracy, SIM cards, health insurance… anything goes!
Example:
"I wish someone told me how important it is to learn at least a few basic Hungarian phrases—people really appreciate the effort!"
Let’s make it easier for the next group of international students and volunteers!
What are your best pieces of advice for future mobility program participants? Share it in the comments!
