Picnic Season! What Would You Bring to a Danish-Style Picnic?
Spring (Forår) is finally here, and that means it’s officially picnic season in many parts of Europe! In Denmark, when the sun finally comes out after a long winter, people love to meet up in parks or by the water for a casual picnic i det fri (picnic outdoors).

Let’s imagine you’re planning a Danish-style picnic with friends. What would you bring? Do you have some favourite specialities yet?
Here are a few traditional ideas to get you started:
- Rugbrød (rye bread) with leverpostej or cheese
- Small salads or kartoffelsalat (potato salad)
- Fresh fruit like strawberries or grapes
- Homemade boller (buns) or a light cake
- Hyldeblomstsaft (elderflower juice) or sparkling water
Your task:
Share 2–3 things you would bring to a picnic—these can be Danish, from your home country, or a mix.
Bonus: Try to write your list in Danish! Keep it simple (nouns are enough).
Tell us where you would have your picnic—by the sea, in the forest, in a city park?
