¡BUENOS DÍAS, COMPATRIOTAS! ✊

Today, 9 May, is Europe Day, which commemorates the historic declaration made 75 years ago by Robert Schuman in 1950. As the French Foreign Minister at the time, Schuman proposed the creation of a European institution to manage the production of coal and steel, with the aim of fostering economic cooperation and reducing the risk of war between European countries.

This idea, presented at the Salon de l’Horloge of the French Foreign Ministry, laid the foundations for the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC), the first supranational European organisation.

A year later, on 18 April 1951, representatives from France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg signed the Treaty of Paris, formally establishing the ECSC. Over time, this organisation evolved into the European Economic Community and eventually the European Union, now composed of 27 member states.

To celebrate Europe Day, several EU institutions open their doors to the public, while local EU offices organise various activities and events suitable for all ages. These events give citizens the opportunity to learn more about the EU, its institutions, and its values.

EUROVISION

This special day of celebration also (more or less) coincides with one of Europe’s most beloved events: Eurovision, held this year in Basel, Switzerland, from 13 to 17 May 2025. Representing Spain is Melody, from Andalusia, with her song Esa diva.

¡QUE TENGÁIS UN FELIZ DÍA! 微笑
