Hello Everyone!

This week’s exercise is inspired by our module “Min smukke have” (My beautiful garden) in our A2 course. Let’s practice writing short phrases about what you would grow in a garden and what you do there. You’ll also learn some useful gardening action vocabulary in Danish.

Gardening Action Verbs (Have-verber):

These verbs can help you describe what you do in the garden:

Danish

English

at plante

to plant

at vande

to water

at høste

to harvest

at så frø

to sow seeds

at luge ukrudt

to weed

at grave

to dig

at gøde

to fertilize

at slappe af

to relax

at nyde solen

to enjoy the sun

Step 1: Choose your plants

Below is a list of vegetables and herbs. Choose 3–5 that you would like to grow in your dream garden.

Vegetables & Herbs:

  • gulerødder (carrots)

  • tomater (tomatoes)

  • agurker (cucumbers)

  • salat (lettuce)

  • løg (onions)

  • hvidløg (garlic)

  • kartofler (potatoes)

  • jordbær (strawberries)

  • persille (parsley)

  • basilikum (basil)

  • dild (dill)

Write in Danish:
I min have vil jeg gerne dyrke ____________.
(= In my garden I would like to grow…)
Example: I min have vil jeg gerne dyrke tomater, basilikum og gulerødder.

Step 2: What do you do in the garden?

Now describe what activities you do in your garden using the action verbs above.

Write 2–3 short sentences in Danish.
Example:
Jeg planter salat og vander mine tomater. Jeg luger ukrudt og nyder solen.
(= I plant lettuce and water my tomatoes. I weed and enjoy the sun.)

Step 3: My favourite plant

Think of your favorite plant or vegetable.

Write one sentence in Danish:
Min yndlingsplante er __________, fordi __________.
(= My favorite plant is ___ because ___.)
Example: Min yndlingsplante er jordbær, fordi de smager sødt.
(= My favorite plant is strawberries because they taste sweet.)

BONUS: Can you guess the vegetable?

Try these garden riddles — write your answers in Danish!

  1. Jeg er rød, rund og god i salat. Hvad er jeg?
(= I am red, round, and good in salad. What am I?)

  1. Jeg vokser under jorden. Jeg er orange. Hvad er jeg?
(= I grow underground. I am orange. What am I?)

  1. Jeg er grøn og lang. Nogle bruger mig i sandwiches. Hvad er jeg?
(= I am green and long. Some people use me in sandwiches. What am I?)

You can write your answers and short sentences in the forum comments.
No need to write perfectly — the goal is to practice, share, and have fun with the vocabulary from this week’s module!

I look forward to seeing you responses in the comment section below this exercise
