Hey Allesammen
Even if you haven’t lived in Denmark, learning the Danish language often means stepping into a whole new way of thinking. From grammar to greetings, small cultural surprises can be found everywhere—whether you discover them through TV series, books, social media, or conversations with Danes.
- What has surprised you the most about Danish culture so far?
- Was it something that made you laugh, confused you, or made you curious to learn more?
For example:
“I was watching a Danish TV show and noticed the characters took off their shoes when entering someone’s home—but then they walked around in socks, even at a dinner party! Where I’m from, that would be very informal!”
Or:
“I read that Danes rarely use the word ‘please’ and it shocked me! But then I realized the tone and politeness are just expressed differently.”
So here is the task that I ask you to participate in. Share your funny, surprising, or thoughtful observations about Danish culture—especially if you’ve experienced it from afar. This is a space to explore cultural gaps, ask questions, and connect with others learning Danish around the world.
You can write in English, Danish, or both!
- What’s one small (or big) cultural moment that caught you off guard?
I look forward to seeing your replies in the comment section of this discussion.
