Dear James,
Thank you so much for being part of our community and for asking your question!
I'll do my best to explain the difference between ‘insure’ and ‘ensure’ in simple language.
‘Ensure’ is used when you want to say you will make sure something happens (or doesn’t happen).

I'll do my best to explain the difference between ‘insure’ and ‘ensure’ in simple language.
‘Ensure’ is used when you want to say you will make sure something happens (or doesn’t happen).
For example:
- I locked my bicycle to ensure it wouldn't be stolen.
- I studied incredibly hard to ensure I passed the test.
‘Insure’, on the other hand, is used when talking about protection something against risk, especially financial risk. This is most often by buying insurance from an insurance company. So this is an ‘official’ and documented way to protect against risk.
For example:
- I insured my car in case I get into an accident.
- We insured our home against fire and theft.
Warmly,
