Dear community members,
In the English B1 course, there is a module called ‘Trying out a new restaurant!’. In the module, you’ll find a video where someone describes two dishes in terms of texture, flavour and smell. So this module is perfect for you if you’re a food-lover and want to learn how to describe a dish in as much detail as possible.
You can find the module in the English B1 course HERE.
Now let’s practise together!
In this exercise, you’re asked to describe a dish that is meaningful to you. Maybe it’s your favourite dish to cook, or maybe it’s the dish your grandmother used to cook for you. The purpose of the exercise is to practise describing a dish in so much detail that someone else you’re describing it to can almost taste the dish. In your description, you can include:
- What it looks like (bright green, fluffy, etc.)
- What it smells like (fresh, spicy, etc.)
- What it tastes like (bitter, sweet, etc.)
- What the texture is (crispy, soft, etc.)
- The flavours you detect (garlicky, zesty, etc.)
- And, how it makes you feel (comforted, happy, etc.)
I’m very much looking forward to hearing about the dishes that are special to you!
Warm regards,
Marieke, OLS Community Manager - English
