Dear language learner, 

Have you ever wondered how companies in Europe develop new ideas and grow their businesses? In the quiz ‘Innovation in Action’, which is part of the ‘Learning English Through the News’ course, you’ll learn about the European Innovation Scoreboard 2025 that assesses innovation performance across the EU and further afield. 

You’ll also learn about the EU startup and scaleup strategy and how it fosters a stimulating and welcoming environment for technology startups in Europe. The quiz also gives you a chance to practise English vocabulary and grammar for discussing comparisons, trends and business growth.

After completing the quiz, we’d love to hear from you: 

• Based on the categories of the European Innovation Scoreboard, how innovative do you think your country is, and why? Choose one of the four categories indicated in the quiz: 
  Innovation Leaders, Strong Innovators, Moderate Innovators, or Emerging Innovators 

• Have you ever considered starting your own business? If so, what would that look like?
