When I was a child, my favorite sweet treat was a carbonated beverage, kind of like a cola, but it tasted of cherries! I used to drink it all the time, and often, the color of the soda would turn my lips and tongue bright red!

Sadly, they don't make it any more, but in hindsight, it probably wasn't too healthy anyhow.

Wow Gosia! Your experience reminded to mine! When I was a child, it existed a drink with fruit flavour, really tasty and quite natural, that I often drank in the afternoons and I liked very much. After swallowing, my whole mouth had sensation of having drank the most mixed natural fruit ever drink when I was young. Sadly I do not remember the brand (Of course it does not exist anymore)...but now I prepare also great juices based on carrot, apple and orange, very recommendable!

Oh, that sounds so nostalgic! That cherry cola turning your lips red is such a vivid memory—I can almost taste the fizzy sweetness. It’s funny how those ‘unhealthy’ childhood treats stick with us, right? Maybe it’s for the best they’re gone (sugar rush disaster!), but I’d still secretly love a sip for old times’ sake. Ever found anything close to that flavor since?"*

Re: Let's Discuss!: A Sweet from your Childhood

by Marica Celjak -
In my childhood, having too many sweets was never a problem. We lived in Yugoslavia, and Coca Cola was too expensive for my parents, so it rarely appeared in our home. My greatest joy was when my grandfather would pick raspberries – I would sprinkle them with a little sugar and spread them on bread. Even today, that remains my favorite treat. At Christmas, there would be a bar of chocolate under the tree, but what I remember most are the moments of togetherness: my parents played games with us, told us stories, and sang. Today, it feels like there are many gifts but little true joy. Plenty of sweets, but not much savoring of them.

My favourite sweet was a brioche stuffed with whipped cream. I remember the joy of buying and eating one before going to school. There was a little pastry shop in the town centre where we would stop almost every morning. That brioche was incredibly soft and delicious, dusted with powdered sugar on. My joy was immense and I can still remember its taste when I close my eyes. Its round shape made it look like a fluffy white cloud.
I also loved plum cakes, an Italian little cake that reminds me of Marcel Proust's madeleine . You can still find them in shops and supermarkets under a different name. Unfortunately, over time, their taste has changed or, perhaps, I have changed and I now feel and see things with a grown-up 's eye!

When I was a child I really loved cookies.
In this way my friends knew what was my favourite gift for my birthday: A little box of cookies with chocolate!
I remember that on 18th birthday my best friend cooked a cake with chocolate, lemon and blueberries. I will never forget it’s tasty in my life.

On the other hand, eating high amount of sugar for a lot of years increased the risk for diabetes. Suddenly one day I was feeling sick and once I went to the hospital the doctor said that I must stop eating chocolates and ice creams.
I really miss eating sweety things.

Hello everybody! I would like to talk about an ice cream that I loved when I was a child (I confess that, secretly, I still like it... haha). It's called "dracula pole." It has the main colors of the vampire, starting with a black Coca-Cola flavored cover (the cape). Next, we find a first pale-colored filling (like the skin of the undead) with a vanilla flavor and, finally, we find a delicious red interior (blood, no doubt) that tastes like strawberry. I loved it and still love its flavor and also the different textures of each layer. And when you reach the end your tongue turns red!

Hello everyone, you know the child love everything sweet and I was not the exception. I think that my favorurite sweet when I was child and nowadays is following in my life is cholado. It's a typical dessert here in Colombia country. It has basic ingredients: ice in pieces, honeyed (this is the secret, which makes the cholado delicious) , fruits (it seems to fruit salad) and condensed milk. This sweet is perfect when you have spended your time working out and the only action that you would make it is drink something refreshing.

Please if you come here in Colombia, I invite you to visit Cali and enjoying this delicious dessert.

My biggest weakness is sweets. I have tasted many desserts and sweets in my life, from cakes to homemade recipes. Even today, I still enjoy sweet foods. I just can't live without them. My favorite candy when I was a kid was undoubtedly the arequipe panelas. They were very popular and easy to prepare, but if you did not know how to make them, the sweet resulted in bits that were unpleasant to the palate. The context of the panel was hard on the outside but soft on the inside, and the filling was consistent. Even today, with so many delicious and manufactured desserts, it is a pleasure to know that you can buy or make homemade panelitas and continue to enjoy those traditional delicacies.

As a child of tropical island I can remember so many tastes of fruits that were a real delight, not because they were tropical fruits but because I could take them directly from the trees... lychees, mangos, papayas and fruits I can't find the right word to translate... However, it seems to me that they really taste like my childhood! :)

In reply to Iya OLS Community Manager

Re: Let's Discuss!: A Sweet from your Childhood

by POMMIER Brigitte -

Hello Lya,

the tropical island I'm from is Reunion Island. It's just near Mauritius Island, in the Indian Ocean.

Reunion Island is a volcanic island, it has been a British colony for five years before becoming french again. That's why, when I was a child, my friends' names could be Margareth or Kate. Some of my cousins also named Steve and Willy!...

Indeed, you can find many tropical fruits and... it's a shame but the taste of them is quite different when bought in supermarket... I remember once, I had been very surprised when my daughter-in-law told me that she liked lychees because they have an acidic taste!!! Lychees are so sweet, nothing to do with what she said!!!

Well, Lya, hope you enjoy the answer and, it's not because it's my island but (it might be too ;) Reunion Island is beautiful and sometimes you can see humpback whales around...

In reply to POMMIER Brigitte

Re: Let's Discuss!: A Sweet from your Childhood

by Iya OLS Community Manager -
Ohhhh, wow! Thanks for your reply, Brigitte! It was wonderful to read about your island. In fact, I am familiar with it because one of my former students did an oral presentation about the island a few years ago. Much like after reading yours, I felt strongly that I must go there!

I didn't know that it was once a British colony for a short period. Does that mean your cousins and some people from that era speak English? Is it a multilingual island?

Your story about the lychees is exactly why I want to live on an island with fruits! Hahaha!

In fact, the first time I really learned what a pineapple should taste like was during a trip to Jamaica. The fruit was much sweeter and much smaller than what I typically see at supermarkets. Imagine my astonishment to discover that I actually like pineapples! The ones at the stores are way too acidic. :/ Plus, the one I ate from Jamaica was picked directly from the land and handed to me. When I bit into it, it was still warm from the sun!

(PS: My name begins with an "I" But I understand the confusion! Many people think it is a lowercase "L." :D)

Re: Let's Discuss!: A Sweet from your Childhood

by Benjamín Iván Aragón Pérez -
Flan is a classic and delicious dessert that often evokes nostalgic childhood memories for me. It is a creamy and smooth dessert that can have flavor variations depending on the recipe and ingredients used.

The flan is characterized by its silky texture and its sweet, caramelized flavor. It is usually made with basic ingredients such as eggs, milk, sugar and vanilla, although recipes may vary; some may add condensed milk to give it an even creamier texture.

The distinctive aspect of flan is its caramel layer, which is formed by melting sugar and pouring it into the mold before adding the flan mixture. This caramelized layer becomes a delicious sauce that covers the flan when unmolded, adding a contrast of flavor between the intense sweetness and the creamy flan.

Cookies hold a special place in the realm of desserts, and their widespread popularity is no coincidence. These delectable treats have earned the title of the best dessert for several reasons. First and foremost, the sheer variety of cookie types offers something for every palate. From classic chocolate chip to delicate shortbread, cookies cater to diverse taste preferences.

Their versatility is another winning factor. Cookies can be soft and chewy or crisp and crunchy, providing a delightful textural experience. Whether dunked into a glass of milk, paired with a scoop of ice cream, or savored on their own, cookies adapt to various serving styles and occasions.

The aroma of freshly baked cookies is an undeniable allure. The enticing scent wafting from the oven creates an atmosphere of warmth and comfort, triggering nostalgic feelings and elevating the entire culinary experience.

Moreover, cookies are often associated with feelings of homemade goodness and care. Baking a batch of cookies is a simple yet rewarding process, making them an accessible and cherished homemade treat. The act of sharing cookies is a gesture of kindness, creating moments of joy and connection.

In essence, cookies embody the perfect blend of taste, texture, and sentimental value, making them the undisputed champions of the dessert world. Their ability to bring smiles, evoke fond memories, and cater to a myriad of preferences solidifies their status as the best dessert, universally loved and timeless.

Hi everyone!
My name is Aneta and I am from Poland.
When as a child, I remember my mother preparing a sweet dish known as “pudding.” This dessert, while loved by many, was something I had a hard time enjoying. The pudding was often too sweet for my liking, with the sugar overpowering the other flavors. The texture, too, was something I struggled with - it was too smooth and lacked the variety I craved. Despite my mother’s best efforts to make it enjoyable by adding various toppings, I could never quite develop a taste for it. To this day, I prefer desserts that offer a balance of flavors and textures.
I greet you warmly

When I was a child (well also now a days too) one of my favorite desserts was lemon pie, but it´s not the one that we usually buy at restaurants or supermarkets, this particular one it´s just made with graham cookies and a very sweet-sour mixtured that my mom used to make with lemon juice, sweetened and condensed milk and pour that between layers of graham cookies.
Could say it´s kind of my comfort food.

My favorite dessert when I was a child was creme caramel. My grandmother used to cook an enormous creme caramel only in Christmas or for her grandchildren's birthdays. She made it with many eggs and a lot of sugar sauce. I'm not sure, but I think it was made with milk too. It was not only the flavor that I have never tasted again a flavor like that, but also the sensation of being all the family together. She died 7 years ago, 4 days before my second child was borned. It's incredible how our taste memory bring us back many memories of the people important for us in our childhood.

There was also some powder sugar one the top. This was very tasty and remember me always the good moment of my childhood. But for know i am gluten intolerant i can't eat exact the same recipe as wheat flavour is replace by rice and corn flavour...

Hello everyone and Iya! I'd love to join in on this discussion. When I was a child, my favorite sweet treat was definitely a classic chocolate chip cookie. It was a simple pleasure but oh-so-delicious.

The cookies were golden brown with crisp edges and a slightly soft, chewy center. As soon as you picked one up, you could see the gooey chocolate chips nestled within the cookie dough, just waiting to melt in your mouth. The aroma of freshly baked cookies would fill the kitchen, making it nearly impossible to resist sneaking a bite before they had even cooled down.

What made these cookies truly special was the perfect balance of sweetness from the chocolate chips and the buttery richness of the cookie dough. Each bite was like a little taste of heaven, and I could never seem to get enough of them. Whether enjoyed with a glass of milk or on their own, those chocolate chip cookies always brought me immense joy and comfort. They hold a special place in my heart as a cherished childhood memory.

As a child, my favorite sweet treat was my grandmother's homemade apple pie. It had a golden-brown crust adorned with delicate lattice patterns, emitting a tantalizing aroma of warm apples. The crust was perfectly crisp on the outside and tender inside. The filling consisted of tart Granny Smith apples, subtly sweetened with brown sugar and a hint of lemon zest. What made it special was the love my grandmother poured into making it, creating cherished memories of family gatherings. What about you? What was your favorite childhood sweet?

by Franck Benesy -
Hi everyone,

There are so many sweets I have tasted during my childhood that I have difficulties to only choose one. Plus, with a mother who has a real knack about making pastries and sweets, I can say it's difficult to not contribute ah ah !

Instead talking about some dessert which are pretty common like tiramisu, yoghurt cakes, crepes or apple pies (I love them anyway !), I will share something which is specific to Corsica.

In Corsica, we have different sweets and pastries and I can say that one of the sweets which has left a mark is what we call "canistrelli".

Overall, they are really simple and easy to make but at the same time, they are really versatile and tasty ! Imagine small biscuits which can be flavoured the way you like and they go really well with some beverage (usually with milk). They have a crunchy texture once cooled and can be covered delicately with sugar to give them a sweet taste.
That said, they are really soft when they are taken out of the oven.
Personally, my favourite are made with white wine but you can also use lemon, anis, little chunks of sugar or just nature... You can really do a lot with them !

I could also speak of "brocciu frittel", small balls with a soft inside made of brocciu (a light and soft cheese made in Corsica) and covered with superfine sugar. They are made of lot for special occasions like mariage for example but you can also find them commonly in some bakeries.
Or also "frappes" which are yet again frittels covered in superfine sugar, a bit lemon-flavoured with a soft and fluffy texture...

I will not write any more than this for this message but I have a really good memory with them, that's for sure !

I am really interested in home-made cooking so I continue to practice on different type of cooking to explore the ever-lasting world of cooking, both sweet and savory.

Have a nice day and a good memory lane !

My favorite dessert in my childhood was a fruit tart from my grandmother. It was a true play of bright colors. This tart appears to have a colorful shine.
The arrangement of several fruits (strawberries, apples, blueberries, oranges) in a circle resembles a spiral of infinity. It seems so delicious. When you take a bite, you experience the sweet flavor of several fruits in your mouth, like a celebration of spring. The contrast with the crispy base is wonderful and very balanced.

Tiramisu, a classic Italian dessert, holds a special place in my heart as a sweet memory from my childhood. Layers of delicate ladyfinger biscuits soaked in espresso coffee, nestled between rich mascarpone cheese and dusted with cocoa powder, create a symphony of flavors and textures that never fail to evoke nostalgia.

The first bite is a revelation, as the soft and creamy mascarpone melts in the mouth, balanced by the crispness of the coffee-soaked biscuits. Each layer offers a burst of flavor – the bitterness of the espresso, the sweetness of the mascarpone, and the subtle richness of the cocoa – harmonizing perfectly to create a truly decadent experience.

I remember watching in awe as my grandmother delicately assembled each layer of tiramisu, her hands moving with practiced precision, infusing every step with love and tradition. Sharing a slice of tiramisu with my family after a hearty meal was a cherished ritual, a moment of togetherness and joy that lingered long after the last bite was savored.

Even now, as I enjoy a slice of tiramisu, I am transported back to those carefree days of my childhood, filled with laughter, love, and the sweet taste of memories made around the family table. Tiramisu will always hold a special place in my heart, a timeless reminder of the simple pleasures that bring us together and nourish our souls.

As a child, my favorite sweet treat was undoubtedly gummy bears. There was something about their chewy texture and fruity flavors that captivated me. I remember eagerly reaching into bags of these colorful candies, excited to taste each one. Whether it was the classic bear-shaped gummies or the more exotic animal shapes, each one offered a burst of sweetness that I couldn't resist.

I have fond memories of picking out my favorite colors from the pack, usually gravitating towards the red and orange ones. Every chewy bite was a moment of pure delight, whether I was enjoying them during a movie night at home or on a family road trip. Gummy bears were a simple pleasure that never failed to bring joy to my day.

What made gummy bears special to me wasn't just their taste, but also the memories associated with them. They were a symbol of carefree childhood days and simple pleasures. Even now, whenever I come across a packet of gummy bears, it's hard to resist indulging in a nostalgic trip back to those sweet moments of my youth.

Imagine a caramel-filled chocolate bar. Each bite starts with the smooth, velvety texture of milk chocolate, melting just enough to reveal a golden stream of rich, creamy caramel. The caramel has a perfect balance of sweetness with a hint of salt, creating a delightful dance of flavors on the tongue. The bar itself is segmented into small, bite-sized pieces, making it easy to savor each moment of indulgence. As the chocolate and caramel blend together, they create a symphony of taste that brings an instant sense of joy and nostalgia, reminiscent of childhood days filled with simple pleasures and sweet treats.

My Favorite Childhood Dessert: Mom's Cookies

When I was a child, my favorite dessert was my mom's homemade cookies. The enchanting aroma that filled the kitchen every time she baked them brought me immense joy and excitement. I’d like to share the unforgettable taste and memories of these cookies with you The Secret of Mom's Cookies

What made my mom's cookies so special wasn't just the ingredients but the love she poured into them. Each cookie, crafted by her hands, was like a work of art brought to our table.

The cookies were made with a simple yet perfect recipe: flour, sugar, butter, and eggs. Sometimes, she would add walnuts, raisins, or chocolate chips to the dough. The real secret, however, lay in the dough’s perfect consistency and the precise baking time that resulted in cookies baked to perfection.

When I was a kid, my grandmother used to bake lemon and chocolate cakes. My parents used to sent me to my grandmother because of their jobs and I was way too young to be left at home. She taught me everything she knew about baking the perfect cake and her ultimate secret ingredient was grated lemon peel. The cake always ended up perfectly sour and sweet at the same time. Her chocolate cakes used to have beautiful patterns and tasted way better than any cake from any bakeries. My mother always came home earlier than my father and she was a huge fan of my grandmothers cooking and baking. And who says we eat her cakes without drinking Turkish tea? Absolute heavenly.

Because of her extremely delicious cakes, my aunt tried to replicate her cakes by altering the ingredients and making them ''healthier'' but It was nothing compared to my grandmothers grated lemon peel cakes. My father also tried to recreate it with me but we always ended up arguing, fighting and him always complaining about me messing up unlike my grandmother, who was calmly explaining what to do and what not to do so I always avoided my father when it comes to baking. Funny enough, he always mentions baking cakes as our great memories every time I criticize him when it comes to him complaining about me to strangers or his close friends.

Unfortunately, she is currently recovering from paralysis and she's not being able to stand up by her own anymore. She cannot talk eloquently anymore and even if she tries to talk, she cannot form words. I miss her grated lemon peel cakes and the only thing I can do to revive them is baking it myself. Just like grandmother taught me.

Re: Let's Discuss!: A Sweet from your Childhood

by Naz ÖYMEZ -
One sweet from my childhood that holds a special place in my heart is the classic chocolate chip cookie. There’s something magical about this simple treat that evokes a flood of warm memories every time I take a bite.

As a child, I vividly remember the aroma of freshly baked cookies wafting through our home, a scent so inviting that it could lure me into the kitchen from any corner of the house. My mother and I would often bake them together on lazy Sunday afternoons. I can still picture the large mixing bowl filled with flour, sugar, butter, and, of course, generous handfuls of chocolate chips. My job was to stir the ingredients, a task I took very seriously despite often sneaking a few chocolate chips when my mom wasn’t looking.

Once the dough was prepared, I would eagerly help drop spoonfuls onto the baking sheet, trying my best to create uniform cookies, though they often ended up in various shapes and sizes. The anticipation would build as we waited for the cookies to bake, the sweet, rich smell filling the kitchen and making my mouth water.

Finally, the moment would come when the timer dinged, and we would carefully remove the golden-brown cookies from the oven. I loved the first few minutes after they were done baking, when the cookies were still warm and the chocolate chips were melty and gooey. My mom would let me have one, and the first bite was always the best – the crisp edges giving way to a soft, chewy center bursting with sweet, melted chocolate.

These chocolate chip cookies were more than just a sweet treat; they were a symbol of comfort and love, a simple yet profound way my mother and I shared special moments together. Even now, as an adult, every time I bake or eat a chocolate chip cookie, I am transported back to those cherished childhood days, filled with warmth, joy, and the delicious taste of homemade goodness.

If I had to remember a sweet from my childhood, it would be one of my mother's cakes. She used to cook one of these for all my birthdays, and I really loved to take them to school. Everyone was expecting this date to eat them!
I need to say that its elaboration is completely easy and that it is a normal chocolate cake. However, you can imagine the texture. It is a mixture of layers that combine creams with crunchy parts. And on the top layer, it has chocolate chips. My mouth is watering just remembering about it.

I love cheesecake too. I'm just about to make one, but a version with low calories. Instead of a flour base or biscuits, I make it with oats, without sugar or butter. Just a little coconut oil, to bind the toasted and processed oats with plenty of lemon zest. In the center, ricotta with vanilla essence and raisins. On top, red fruit jam, sweetened with grape juice.

My favorite childhood sweet was my grandmother’s homemade baklava. It wasn’t just a dessert; it was a masterpiece crafted with love and care. I still remember watching her meticulously roll out the thinnest layers of dough, layer by layer, each glistening with melted butter. She would sprinkle generous amounts of crushed walnuts between the sheets, and when it was finally baked, the entire house would be filled with the intoxicating aroma of honey and butter.

The first bite was pure magic — the crispiness of the golden layers, the rich sweetness of the syrup, and the subtle nuttiness of the walnuts combined to create a symphony of flavors. Eating her baklava felt like being wrapped in warmth and joy, as though each piece carried a piece of her love. Even now, when I think about those moments, I can almost taste it again, and it brings a smile to my face. It wasn’t just the baklava; it was the memories and the love that made it unforgettable.

My favorite sweet as a child was a chocolate-covered marshmallow treat. It had a smooth, shiny coating of milk chocolate that cracked gently when you bit into it. Inside, the marshmallow was soft, light, and fluffy, melting in your mouth with a sweet, creamy texture. It was simple yet incredibly satisfying, and just thinking about it brings back happy memories of childhood treats!

Re: Let's Discuss!: A Sweet from your Childhood

As a child, my favourite sweet was the classic chocolate fudge brownie. Its rich, gooey texture and intense chocolate flavour were utterly irresistible. I loved how the top layer would form a slightly crispy crust, giving way to a dense and chewy centre that felt like a hug for my taste buds. Every bite was a delightful mix of sweetness and decadence, often enhanced with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The homemade versions were particularly special, as I enjoyed helping in the kitchen and eagerly awaited the smell of chocolate wafting through the house. It wasn’t just about the taste—the memories of sharing those moments with family made brownies my favourite.

The allure of brownies was also tied to the way they were presented. Sometimes they were dotted with walnuts for a bit of crunch, while other times, they were drizzled with caramel or sprinkled with powdered sugar for a touch of elegance. I remember saving the corner pieces for myself because they had the perfect balance of crispness and chewiness. Brownies weren't just a treat; they were a symbol of joy and celebration, appearing at birthdays, picnics, and cosy movie nights. Whenever I see or smell freshly baked brownies, they transport me back to those carefree childhood days filled with laughter and sweetness.

One of my favorite sweets as a child was chocolate éclairs. They were long, golden pastries filled with smooth, rich vanilla cream and topped with a glossy layer of dark chocolate glaze. The contrast between the light, airy choux pastry, the creamy filling, and the slightly bitter-sweet chocolate made each bite heavenly.

Since I can remember, every year on my birthday, my grandmother has prepared the same special treat: a fruit tart with custard. The kitchen fills with the sweet aroma of fresh pastry and vanilla as she carefully bakes the crust. She always makes sure it’s perfectly golden and crisp.

Once it cools, she spreads the creamy custard over the base, smoothing it with a gentle hand. Then, with the precision of an artist, she arranges an assortment of fruits—bright strawberries, luscious blueberries, and tangy kiwis—each slice placed like a little piece of joy.

As a child, I would eagerly wait for the moment when the tart was ready to eat. The first bite was always the best, a perfect balance of buttery crust, silky custard, and fresh, juicy fruit. Even as the years passed, that tart remained a constant, the taste of love and tradition, marking each birthday with a sense of warmth and nostalgia.

My childhood favorite, cheesecake, was more than just a dessert—it was a quiet kind of magic. Silky and creamy, with a soft, comforting texture that felt like a warm hug in every bite. The base, crisp and golden, added just the right amount of contrast, a firm foundation for a cloud of richness.

It was dense enough to feel indulgent, yet somehow light, almost floating on the tongue. Its sweetness was subtle, never loud, letting the tang of the cream cheese shine through like a secret only you knew.

When I was a child, my favourite sweet was dulce de leche from the Dominican Republic. It wasn was thick kind of like soft candy or fudge. Sometimes it had coconut or nuts inside, which made it even more delicious. I remember it was light brown and a little shiny on top. When you bit into it, it was soft and creamy. The taste was really sweet, with a mix of milk and a bit of vanilla. I used to buy it at small local shops or from street vendors, and it always felt like a special treat. My grandma sometimes made it at home, and the smell of sugar and milk cooking was amazing!

When I was a child, my favourite sweet was a homemade chocolate cake that my grandmother used to bake for birthdays and special occasions. It had a rich, dark chocolate sponge with a creamy chocolate ganache in the middle and on top. The smell alone would fill the whole house and make my mouth water!

The texture was soft and moist, and the flavour was intensely chocolatey but not too sweet — just perfect. I especially loved how the ganache would melt in my mouth. Every bite reminded me of warmth, family, and celebration. Even today, whenever I eat a similar cake, it takes me right back to those childhood memories.

How about you? What’s the sweet that brings you back to your childhood?

Hi!

When I was a child, my favorite sweet was my mother’s chocolate cake. It had two moist layers with rich chocolate ganache and a few crisp chocolate curls on top. The texture was soft and a little dense, and the taste was sweet, slightly tangy, and so comforting.

Every bite was deliciously rich and full of love. I still remember it as the best dessert I’ve ever had!

Growing up, my ultimate sweet treat was homemade brownies. They were these dark squares with a beautifully shiny, crinkled top. The texture was key: moist and dense in the middle, often wonderfully gooey, with slightly crispy, chewy edges. The taste was a rich, strong chocolate, delicious but not too sweet. Eating them warm brought back so many nostalgic memories. They were simply amazing!

Hi everyone!

My favorite sweet as a child was a Tosca Cake my grandma used to make regularly. It has a light basic sponge cake type of base with a crispy caramelized almond topping. I remember enjoying this sweet with my grandma and other family every other week.

When I was a kid, my favorite candy was the strawberry lollipop. I remember it came on a plain white stick, with the candy shaped like a round, shiny ball, almost like a small red glass sphere. The sweet, fruity aroma was impossible to resist, and the flavor was a perfect blend of sugar and strawberry, slightly tart on the finish, leaving a lingering aftertaste.

When I was a kid I really loved big creme or jam filled donuts, that were sold at the store near my home. They were really soft and sweet, filled with strawberry jam, chocolate, etc.

When I was a kid, I really liked éclairs. Every Saturday afternoon we bought them from the bakery in our neighborhood. They look like a sandwich, with pastry on top and bottom and chocolate cream in the middle. I still love them, but now I try to avoid them because I watch what I eat.

When I was small my favourite sweet was a maritozzo my grandmother bought from the corner bakery. It looked like a little golden cloud, a brioche split open and heaped with white Chantilly cream. The first bite was a gentle contradiction: the bun slightly dense and warm, the cream impossibly soft and light. I always got messy eating it.
