Vilnius is celebrating its 700th birthday this year!

If you are already living in Vilnius (or in some other places within Lithuania), it is very likely that you have already heard about it. But for most of you this might come as a surprise.

Year 2023 is special for Lithuanian capital, as it marks city’s…700th birthday!

Vilnius was first mentioned in 1323, when the letters of Grand Duke Gediminas were sent, inviting craftsmen from Holy Roman Empire to come to the city.

Seeing many different rulers, being influenced by a variety of different historical periods, over centuries Vilnius has developed into a modern European city, being home to more than 600 000 people and growing each year.

Lithuanian capital has also become an attractive location for international visitors coming to the city from all around the world. Being home to country’s biggest universities as well as some of the major worldwide corporations, city is offering great opportunities for newcomers.

If you are planning to visit Vilnius this year, you will not be disappointed! Activities and events are planned for the whole year, so everyone will have a chance to take part in birthday celebrations. You can find an official programme of the events here:
