This course focuses on the EFSA Guidance on the scientific requirements for applications for the authorisation of novel foods (NFs) under Regulation (EU) 2015/2283. It focuses on NFs of plant origin with particular attention to the following scientific sections:

  • Identity of the Novel Food 
  • Production Process 
  • Compositional Data
  • Nutritional information
  • Toxicology
The course combines theoretical explanations with practical examples from real EFSA scientific opinions. Participants will examine how previous applicants addressed data gaps (or not) and how proactive approaches improved the success and efficiency of dossier evaluations.

This course is intended for novel food applicants from around the world who wish to introduce plant-derived novel food to the EU market.

On successful completion of this course, you will be able to: 

  • Understand the structure and logic of how the EFSA scientific guidance for Novel Foods (NF) is applicable to those of plant origin or product of plant origin. 
  • Identify and prepare the scientific data required for the NF of plant origin or products of plant origin characterisation phase of a dossier. 
  • Recognise common issues raised during EFSA evaluations and learn how to address them proactively. 
  • Enhance the scientific quality and completeness of your application to facilitate a more efficient risk assessment.
