Course details

This course will concentrate on the strategic importance of school staff in enhancing student mental health through a holistic approach, where prioritizing the well-being of all school members is central to the school's mission.

This course will explore the various protective and risk factors affecting the psychological well-being of both students and staff. Protective factors, such as positive teacher-student relationships and a strong sense of school community, will be highlighted. On the other hand, at-risk factors including bullying, cyberbullying, work-related stress, and burnout will also be addressed.

The course will also explore mental health promotion, through the lens of developmental and educational psychology research, focusing on the short- and long-term psychological impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the well-being of both students and teachers.

Furthermore, the course will introduce the theoretical framework of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) and offer a variety of practical activities that can be implemented in diverse educational settings for students of different ages and developmental stages.

Teachers from all school levels and subjects as well as other school staff (librarians, school leaders, etc.) who are interested in exploring the topic of social and emotional learning and mental health promotion in educational settings.

  • Develop theoretical knowledge and practical skills to support mental health in school settings, considering various protective and risk factors affecting the psychological well-being of both students and staff.
  • Explore the importance of mental health promotion, by discussing short and long-term psychological impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the well-being of both teachers and students
  • Discover the Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Framework through practical exploration and design of relevant activities suitable for diverse educational settings.
