Course details
The objective of Union Mechanism Introduction Course (UMI) is to provide
participants with the necessary basic knowledge about the Union Civil
Protection Mechanism, disaster risk management principles, the legal framework
of civil protection and humanitarian aid.
Basic knowledge of Team
performance and cultural awareness principles will be delivered. Specific focus
is on basic UCPM deployment and missions background elements.
This course is the introductory
level to the UCPM Training and Exercises Programme. It will help to explore the
potential to develop as a UCPM deployable professional and enhance
understanding of the international disaster response environment.
Target audience
- EU Member States and UCPM Participating States’ civil protection/disaster management experts already trained and experienced at national level wishing to deploy internationally as part of an EUCPT
- EU Member States and UCPM Participating States’ Technical Experts with a specific professional background
- TAST key personnel
- EU modules, other response and rescEU capacities’ key personnel
- DG ECHO staff (ERCC Liaison Officers, ECHO Field Offices staff)
- Relevant personnel from international organisations, IFRC and UN Agencies
- Civil protection and disaster management personnel from eligible third countries (EU candidate and potential candidate countries)
Learning objectives
- Understand the specifities of UCPM prevention, preparedness and response to disasters in an international invironment and the role expected from participants function
- Understand and demonstrate ability to perform as member of a team, to interact with disaster environment stakeholders and to perform specific UCPM roles and activities as requested.
