"Peer education for English language"
In recent years, English teachers have noticed a significant number of students in the lower secondary school (ages 11-14) struggling with learning English due to various reasons, such as a lack of basic skills, inherent difficulties, or special needs. To address this issue, a peer education program for English language was initiated in Francesca's school before the pandemic. Students aged 16-18, who were studying foreign languages, provided support to their younger peers but, unfortunately, this program only ran for a few months. This year, we have resumed the project, but it requires improvement. To enhance its effectiveness, it is crucial to build upon the program's strengths and weaknesses while considering the needs of both the students requiring support and the peer support students. "All for one, one for all"
As a school psychologist, Nataša discovered issues in the school's atmosphere and peer interactions through questionnaire findings. About half of the students reported a lack of friendliness, respect, and inclusion, with instances of insults and aggression. The school also faces challenges with student motivation, as younger students struggle with the vocational program's structure and lack effective learning habits. Addressing these issues requires promoting a positive environment, implementing anti-bullying measures, and developing strategies for enhanced motivation and learning habits.
