Gozo, a Hidden Gem: Exploring Malta’s Second Island

If you're looking for a hidden gem to explore, then look no further than Gozo! This small island off the coast of Malta is often overshadowed by its larger neighbor, but that doesn't mean there's nothing to do there. In fact, there's plenty to see and do in Gozo, from exploring its stunning natural scenery to visiting its historic towns and villages. And best of all, it's still relatively undiscovered by tourists, so you can enjoy its tranquility without the crowds.

Here’s a few ideas:

1. Explore the beautiful UNESCO World Heritage sites. The island's churches and other buildings are a sight to behold, and they're all perfectly preserved thanks to their status as UNESCO sites. If you're lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of a local festival or tradition taking place at one of these locations.

 2. Hike up to Ta' Pinu monastery for panoramic views of the island. This hike is not for the faint of heart, but it's definitely worth it for the amazing views from the top. Make sure to bring plenty of water and sunscreen with you!

 3. Get lost in the maze of narrow alleyways in Victoria, the island's capital city. Victoria is a great place to explore on foot, and its maze of narrow streets and alleyways is sure to keep you busy for hours. As you wander through this maze, be sure to keep an eye out for local cats - they're everywhere in Victoria!

 4. Sample some local cuisine at one of the many restaurants on Gozo. You won't find any shortage of great places to eat in Victoria and many of the larger towns, so just pick a random spot and see what they have to offer! Some popular dishes include rabbit stew, rabbit pasta, and even rabbit kebabs - yes, really! If you're not into rabbit food, there are plenty of other options available too.

 5. Take a day trip to Comino Island. Comino is another UNESCO World Heritage site that's just a short boat ride away from Gozo. It's best known for its white sandy beaches and clear blue waters - perfect for swimming! There aren't many things to do on Comino itself, but it makes for a great day trip destination if you're looking for some beach time. For more about Comino, read our guide to Comino
