Danubership
Did you know that the Danube River is one of the longest rivers in Europe? It flows through ten countries, from Germany all the way to the Black Sea! For thousands of years, people have lived along the Danube and used it for transportation, fishing, and farming. It flows through four different regions of Serbia too.
But the Danube isn't just a river - it's also a symbol of friendship between European countries. Even though the countries along the Danube have different languages and cultures, they are connected by the river and share a common history. People have traded goods and ideas along the Danube for centuries, and this has helped create friendships between countries.
The Danube is also home to many different animals, such as sturgeon, otters, and beavers. People in Serbia have a deep respect for the Danube and a lot of people in Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, Moldova and Ukraine work hard to keep it clean and healthy.
In fact, there's a special event called the
Danube Day that's celebrated every year on June 29th! It's a day to remember
the importance of the Danube and to celebrate the friendship between countries.
People gather along the river to enjoy music, dancing, and food from different
countries.
Danube Day is celebrated in cities along the Danube River in Serbia, such as Belgrade, Novi Sad, and Smederevo. The celebration includes cultural performances, river clean-up campaigns, and educational events organized by government agencies, environmental organizations, and educational institutions. The goal is to raise awareness about the importance of the Danube River and its preservation and promote environmental awareness and sustainable practices.
So next time you see a river, remember the Danube and how it has connected people for thousands of years. You never know, you might make a new friend on the bank of this river in Serbia!

Protiče i kroz četiri različita regiona Srbije.
jezike i kulture, reka ih povezuje i dele zajedničku istoriju.
