Enjoy the endless sunset in one of Reykjavik’s gems, Perlan with a glass dome café and Iceland’s most popular museum on the lower floors.

Here is a list of 10 Ideas for you to do in order to make your summer in Iceland unforgettable!

  1. Hiking through Majestic Landscapes: Iceland is a hiker's dream come true, boasting a diverse range of landscapes that will leave you in awe. Lace up your boots and venture into the wild, traversing the dramatic volcanic terrains, glacial valleys, and cascading waterfalls.

Few incredible hiking trails in Iceland:

  • Laugavegur: The Laugavegur Trek is a classic Icelandic hike that passes through colorful rhyolite mountains, hot springs, and glaciers. Suitable for all skill levels.
  • Skaftafell National Park: Skaftafell National Park offers a variety of trails for all skill levels. Home to glaciers, waterfalls, and beautiful landscapes.
  • Reykjadalur: Reykjadalur offers an easy hike with a unique twist, a hot spring river for a dip. Relaxing and suitable for all.
  • Glymur: Glymur is a challenging hike to the second highest waterfall in Iceland. Suitable for adventure seekers with stunning views.

  1. Chasing the Midnight Sun: Prepare for a phenomenon like no other – the midnight sun. In the Icelandic summer, the sun never truly sets, painting the sky with vibrant hues even in the late hours of the night. Take advantage of the extended daylight and embark on magical adventures under the golden glow. Experience midnight hikes to remote viewpoints, enjoy late-night kayaking tours, or capture breathtaking photographs in the ethereal light.

  1. Exploring Glacier Lagoons and Ice Caves: Iceland is home to mesmerizing glacier lagoons and enchanting ice caves. Hop aboard a boat tour in Jökulsárlón and witness the sparkling icebergs as they float in the crystal-clear waters. Embark on an ice cave exploration and enter a world of shimmering blue hues and intricate formations. Learn about the geological wonders of the glaciers and the forces that shape them. These natural wonders are sure to leave you speechless and provide a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

  1. Discovering Majestic Waterfalls: Iceland is famous for its magnificent waterfalls, each with its own unique charm.

6 must see waterfalls in Iceland:

  • Gullfoss: Where the Hvítá River plunges into a breathtaking canyon.

  •  Seljalandsfoss: Feel the mist as you walk behind the cascading water.

  • Skógafoss: Just a 10-minute ride from Seljarlandsfoss you will find the beautiful Skógafoss and its neighboring hidden gem, the enchanting Kvernufoss.

  • Glymur: The second tallest waterfall in Iceland, located in Hvalfjörður. The hike up to Glymur is around 2 hours and is almost as beautiful as the Glymur itself. You will need to cross some rivers so go well prepared and remember to bring snacks to enjoy once you get there.

  • Hraunfossar: Beautiful waterfalls that all combine in one when the water falls out from the Hallmundarhraun lava field.

  • Dynjandi: Sometimes called the Jewel of the West Fjords, and for a very good reason. This magnific waterfall, located in the West Fjords of Iceland is around 100 meters long and is definitely worth visiting.

  1. Relaxing in Geothermal Hot Springs: After all the adventures, it's time to unwind and relax in Iceland's geothermal hot springs. Take a dip in the world-famous Blue Lagoon and let the warm mineral-rich waters rejuvenate your body and soul. Or the newly opened Sky Lagoon in Kópavogur, just a short bus ride from Reykjavík’s center.

Discover hidden hot springs off the beaten path and soak in the tranquillity of nature. The soothing heat and stunning surroundings make for the perfect escape from the bustling world.

My 2 personal favourite natural hot springs:

  • Reykjadalur hot thermal river: A 40-minute drive from Reykjavík and then a 1-hour hike away you can find the Reykjadalur hot thermal river. It is a popular spot both among Icelanders to go and enjoy a beautiful sunny summer day and among travellers as well.
