Hi, fellow globe trekkers!

Remember that B1 lesson and our conversation about travelling around Europe by bike? Well, guess what?! We can add the EuroVelo initiative to our list of resources!

WHAT IS THE EUROVELO INITIATIVE?

EuroVelo is a comprehensive trail for cyclists that connects 42 countries in Europe via beautiful, scenic bicycle routes.

Every year, thousands of cyclists use Eurovelo trails to explore the continent. As you can see from the map, each route is color coded, numbered and corresponds to the list of routes.

WONDERING WHERE TO GO?

Easy! There’s an interactive map on the EuroVelo website where you can search by route or by country.

Take a look at the list of routes below to get an idea about what's available:

I don’t know about you, but my imagination is already whirring just looking at some of these names.

What’s the Pilgrims Route all about? :D

The Sun Route starts at the Northernmost tip of Norway and ends in Malta!

And what about EuroVelo 6 Atlantic – Black Sea? It’s 4700 km long, and passes through 10 countries AND 11 UNESCO sites! These are the countries on this route: France, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, and Bulgaria.

What a great way to discover the continent, right? Not only is travelling by bike fantastic for the environment and an inexpensive way to sightsee, but it’s great for your health too.

Are you starting to feel the itch to take to the road? :D

I understand!

BUT DON’T BITE OFF MORE THAN YOU CAN CHEW!

If you decide to hit the trails, there are a few tips to keep in mind.

Be sure:

-          You’re physically, mentally & emotionally up to the task.

-          You’ve prepared for all logistics.

-          Your bike is in excellent condition and you know how to fix it if needed.

-          Start small! If you decide to take on some of these trails, begin with very small, easy journeys that are near you.

-          And of course, get in touch with the friendly folks at EuroVelo to help you prepare. And why not bring a friend with you? :D

You could share your pictures, write about what you’ve discovered, and even ask us for tips! We are a big community, after all, and you may pass through the home country of one of our members.

So, will you be one of the cyclists enjoying the trails this summer? Would you travel with family and friends?

What journeys look interesting to you?
