Dear English language learners,
I don't know about you, but I'm VERY excited about this year's European Heritage Days!! Have you heard about it? If not, don't wait a second more. Get all the details below!
WHAT IS IT?
According to, the EU’s official page dedicated to culture, “European Heritage Days are among the most widely celebrated participatory cultural events in Europe.
During the European Heritage Days, thousands of monuments and sites open their doors, some of them normally closed to the public for the rest of the year. This allows people to enjoy free visits, learn about their shared cultural heritage and become part of safeguarding Europe's heritage for present and future generations.
European Heritage Days provide access to thousands of rarely opened sites and unique events to over 20 million people every year.”
The European Heritage Days promote cultural diversity, dialogue, and heritage preservation. There are tens of thousands of events taking place in 48 participating countries for people of all ages and backgrounds, all centered around the Living Heritage theme.
"Living Heritage" explores the practices, places and objects that are part of our cultural heritage today.
Through this lens, we will discover the practices, knowledge and skills that have been passed from one generation to the next, and are still in use today. We have the opportunity to see a variety of skills, trades and professions that enable us to maintain and preserve our heritage in many ways.
So, let's enjoy this opportunity to take a closer look at the work being done by the custodians of our heritage. It examines how yesterday's heritage has become today's, and how this heritage can, thanks to people who pass on their knowledge, be safeguarded for future generations.
WHERE IS IT?
