Hi, friends!
Today marks the official first day of Autumn! But, not only that! If you noticed some of the buildings in your town illuminated in blue lights today, it's because today is International Sign Languages Day!
Thanks to the efforts of The World Federation of the Deaf and the United Nations General Assembly, we celebrate the over 300 sign languages of the world.
As part of the week-long celebration of the International Week of Deaf People; we learn, support, celebrate, and advocate for 'The Rights of Deaf Children", "Achieving Sign Language Rights for All", "Building Inclusive Deaf Communities", and much more. Read here to get more details about all the themes for the week.
In addition to these 300 and the hundreds of spoken languages and other sound-based languages, we have such a marvelous linguistic diversity. Now that's something to be proud of!
As this is our language-learning community, we celebrate and encourage all language learning!
Are any of you users of sign language? Which language do you use to communicate?
For those of us who are at the beginning of our learning journey about the world of sign languages and Deaf culture, would you like to teach us about it and share your experiences as a mobility participant who uses sign languages? If so, join us in the Living Abroad forum to tell us. This is also a good place for anyone else who wishes to ask questions.
Thanks to our welcoming & friendly community, we can have conversations together to learn from and teach each other!
