Dear community members,
Laba diena! Hope you are doing great.
If you are currently staying in Vilnius, you may have already noticed how greenery this city is. Surrounded by parks and hills, Lithuania's capital has also been putting effort towards improving cycling infrastructure, making streets more walkable and applying other sustainable solutions.
And this has paid off! Vilnius has been named the European Green Capital 2025 in the final of the European Commission’s Green Cities 2025 Awards, beating two runners-up, Portugal’s Guimarães and Austria’s Graz.
The European Green Capital Award is an initiative established by the European Commission to recognize and reward cities that are leading the way in environmentally friendly urban living. The award aims to promote and reward efforts to improve the environment, boost local economies, and enhance the quality of life for residents.
Cities that receive the European Green Capital Award are expected to serve as role models for other cities in Europe and around the world, inspiring positive change and fostering sustainability.
How would you rate Vilnius and other European cities in terms of sustainability? Let's talk about this in community forums!
Yours,
Gytis
