The year was 1987 when the idea (ideja) of Erasmus was born (rođena), named after the Dutch philosopher Desiderius Erasmus. The initial vision was to facilitate student exchanges within the European community. What started as a pilot project, now has flourished into a big opportunity, enabling over 10 million (miliona) students to explore the world, learn new languages, and immerse themselves in foreign cultures.
But let's rewind even further to grasp the historical context. This initiative sought to strengthen unity through the exchange (razmena) of knowledge and cultures, firmly believing that education could be the cornerstone of a peaceful and interconnected Europe.
Fast forward to the present (sadašnjost), and Erasmus Days continue to serve this noble purpose. Across the globe, from Serbia to Spain, and from Italy to Ireland, students and educators alike join hands to celebrate this legacy of Erasmus, with events that reflect the spirit of unity in diversity. They organize seminars, workshops, cultural exchanges, and community outreach programs that commemorate the program's impact (uticaj).
Erasmus Days, from 9 to 14 October this year, serve as a reminder of the deep-rooted history of this initiative. As we engage in these festivities, we honor the visionaries of the past and the opportunities Erasmus+ offers for the future (budućnost).
It's not just about studying abroad (inostranstvu); it's about forging connections, breaking down barriers, and weaving the rich tapestry of international friendships (prijateljstvo). It's about stepping into the shoes of those who came before us, dreaming of a more united world.
Erasmus Days are a testament to the enduring power of education to shape the world and our lives (života). In our pursuit of knowledge and cultural enrichment, we continue to build (gradimo) bridges, just as those before us did, for a brighter and more interconnected tomorrow.
And the "+"
Given its resounding success over the years and the fact that "Erasmus" was far more widely known than the other program titles, it was decided to extend the "Erasmus" brand name to the whole of the new program. The "+" is meant to recall that the program supports more sectors than just higher education, as it did at its origins.
Perspectives (2021-2027)
In this second phase, the program focuses on four overarching priorities:
Supporting the green transition
Addressing the digital transformation
Promoting social inclusion and diversity
Fostering stronger participation in democratic life, common values, and civic engagement
As we celebrate Erasmus Days, let's not only reflect on the past (prošlost) but also look ahead to the future (budućnost). The "+," which signifies the expansion of the program's scope, reminds us that Erasmus is evolving to meet the needs of the modern (modernom) world.
So, as we celebrate Erasmus Days, let's raise a toast to history, to unity (jedinstvo), and to the promise of a future where borders blur, cultures mingle, and the world becomes our classroom. Join the festivities, share your Erasmus stories, and be part (deo) of a legacy that's been changing lives for decades.
So join us for six days of celebration, from 9 to 14 October 2023, to promote skills throughout Europe! Erasmusdays.rs
