La Cité internationale de la langue française opens to the public today, Wednesday, November 1st.
This Monday, the French President Emmanuel Macron inaugurated La Cité internationale de la langue française (The International City of the French Language).
This cultural project was initiated in 2017 when Macron launched the restoration of the Castle of Villers-Cotterêts, a historical heritage monument, to turn it into a space dedicated to the French language.
It is a cultural and educational space dedicated to the French language, aiming to be both open to the world and rooted in its local context. It is built on three pillars: culture & creation, education & training, research & innovation. The city offers a variety of activities such as exhibitions, performances, residency workshops, educational activities, and more.
Its goal is to value the French language as a source of creativity, intellectual and aesthetic fulfillment, as well as social, economic, and civic integration. Its facilities include 1600 square meters of exhibitions, a 250-seat auditorium, 12 residency workshops, local shops, a diverse schedule of events, language learning activities, and a research laboratory focusing on linguistic issues.
I am looking forward to visit it!
