Giving Tuesday was established in 2012 by the Belfer Center for Innovation & Social Impact at the 92nd Street Y, a cultural center in New York City, in partnership with the United Nations Foundation. The movement aims to shift the focus from the consumerism of Black Friday and Cyber Monday to the spirit of giving, generosity, and philanthropy.
It encourages individuals, organizations, and businesses to donate, volunteer, and support various causes. Giving Tuesday has become a global phenomenon, spreading to over 75 countries worldwide. It has gained traction on social media platforms, where people share stories of their charitable acts and encourage others to get involved.
