Funny, Strange, Memorable or Life Changing Travel Stories

Our recent blog about travelling on a budget has my travel memories a buzz… Oh, the places I’ve been! The people I’ve met! And the funny or bizarre adventures I’ve had… they still bring a smile to my face. And more often than not, I remember the funny adventure itself more so than the destination!
Whether you read, sleep, watch a film, listen to music, draw, study, eat, or simply get down to some doodling; everyone has a preferred activity to do while travelling. And sometimes, when you least expect it; that’s when the adventure really begins.
UNEXPECTED FRIENDS

As the old adage goes, “It's not the destination but the journey that counts.” So, let's pause for a second and think about some memorable events that you experienced while travelling. Have you made any unexpected friends?
I once took a bus from Brooklyn, New York in the United States all the way up to Montreal, Canada. The bus ride was about an eight-hour journey which I was really looking forward to because I love to really dig deeply into a good book without interruptions. While devouring my book, my little bookmark fell into the aisle and landed next to the foot of someone across from me. This person went to grab it just as I went for it. He reached it before I did and after thanking him, we struck up a fun conversation that lasted for many hours. Turns out, he was also American and studying at one of the universities in Montreal. We had such a delightful time getting to know each other that he invited me to explore Montreal with him by bicycle. Because of our fabulous daytime and nighttime explorations of that delightful and dazzling city on a bike, I discovered so many magical corners and little neighborhoods! To this day, my unexpected friend on the bus is still my friend today.
BIZARRE OR INTERESTING MOMENTS

Perhaps you didn’t make a friend, but maybe you had a funny or surprising experience during a trip. I’ll share a funny story that a friend told me: When backpacking around Gibraltar, she made friends with a little furry creature who kept following her along the hiking trail. It wasn't exactly friendship he was after though... the monkey stole her sunglasses right out of her backpack! How bizarre, right? What in the world does the monkey need with sunglasses? Haha!
