Greetings in Finnish (Tervehdyksiä suomeksi)
Dear community,
Whenever you go abroad it’s always good to learn a few basics, especially when you’re moving there. In this post you will find a lesson of basic greetings in Finnish that, when used, will sure be appreciated by locals.
Greetings Lesson:
Hello – Hei / Moi / Terve !
Goodbye – Nähdään / Näkemiin (more formal)
Good morning – Huomenta
Good afternoon – Iltapäivää / Hyvää iltapäivää (formal)
Good evening – Iltaa / Hyvää iltaa (formal)
My name is … – Minun nimeni on ...
What is your name? – Mikä sinun nimi on?
Nice to meet you – Hauska tutustua / Hauska tavata
How are you? – Mitä kuuluu? / Kuinka voit? (formal)
I’m fine thank you – Minulle kuuluu hyvää, kiitos! / Minä voin hyvin, kiitos (formal)
Please – Finnish language does not have an equivalent for this, you can say, ole kiltti which means be nice.
Thank you – Kiitos!
Excuse me – Anteeksi!

Warm regards,
