Dear community,

Whenever you go abroad, it’s always good to learn a few basics, especially when you’re moving there. In this post, you will find a lesson on basic greetings in English that, when used, will surely be appreciated by locals.

Greetings Lesson:

  • Hello
  • Goodbye
  • Good morning
  • Good afternoon
  • Good evening
  • My name is …
  • What is your name?
  • Nice to meet you.
  • How are you?
  • I’m fine thank you.
  • Please
  • Thank you
  • Excuse me.

I hope you enjoyed this lesson! Let me know in the comments below if you have already used some English greetings and how the locals responded.

That's sounds great!
I was in Portugal last year.
With Erasmus+ my goal became a reality.
I really wanted to travel the world, and this became possible thanks to the Erasmus team.

Hello, my name is Marijana. I am a teacher. I teach mathematics and I have strong passion for this subject. In the past, I was actively involved in cycling and racing, but nowdays I ride it more recreationally. I'm proud mother of two children - my dother is 12 years old and my son is 7. I love reading and am particularly fond of literature. From time to time, I also enjoy writing poetry.

Hello, thanks for the topic.
I want to ask, what's to say to someone if I want to say "please move, I want to go?" without sounding rude?
Thank you!

Hi Nhat Quynh Dao Kha! Thanks for your question! Could you explain the situation a bit more so I can help you with your question? Do you mean, for instance, if someone is in your way? Or if you are, for instance, at a party with a friend and you want to leave?

Yes, I’ve already used some English greetings like “Hello,” “Good morning,” and “How are you?” when talking to tourists in my city. The locals (and visitors) responded positively and were friendly. It made the conversation easier and helped me feel more confident speaking English.

Hi Iya,
thanks for these lesson and this platform totally free. It's really useful.
I've already used these English greetings. I guess a way to connect with other people and to start with other persons reducing the fear of speaking.
