In the southwestern part of Macedonia lies a natural treasure that captivates visitors with its breathtaking beauty and unparalleled biodiversity – the National Park Galicica. Galicica, a karstic mountain, stands tall as a geographical marvel that separates the pristine Ohrid and Prespa Lakes. The highest peak, Magaro, reaches an elevation of 2,254 meters, providing a majestic backdrop to the surrounding landscape. The mountain's unique geographical environment, coupled with abundant rainfall, contributes to its distinction as a haven for relict plants and endemic animal species.

One of the most striking features of the National Park Galicica is its rich biodiversity. A remarkable 11 plant species are exclusive to this region, with an additional 26 endemic animal species making their home here. The area's high rainfall is a contributing factor to this biological diversity, creating an environment that sustains life in various forms. 

The Butterfly Paradise: 

Galicica emerges as a haven for butterflies, boasting an astonishing 1644 species in such a compact area. This impressive number reflects the diverse ecosystems and habitats present within the national park. Visitors are treated to the mesmerizing sight of these delicate creatures fluttering against the backdrop of the two adjacent lakes – Ohrid and Prespa.
