Hello community!

Today I thought about a fun activity: I will teach you some Romanian holiday carols!

Let's start with a short holiday-themed vocabulary lesson:

  • Sanie - Sleigh
  • Zăpadă - Snow
  • Colind - Christmas carol
  • Fulg de zăpadă - Snowflake
  • Moș Crăciun - Santa Claus
  • Crăciun - Christmas
  • Cadou - Gift
  • Brad de Craciun - Christmas tree
  • Frig - Cold
  • Ornament de Crăciun - Christmas ornament
  • Glob de zăpadă - Snow globe
  • Patinoar - Ice rink
  • Îngheț - Ice

And now it's time for some carols! I will only write one couplet of each, both in English and Romanian.

1. O Christmas tree / O Brad Frumos

EN

O Christmas Tree! O Christmas Tree!
Thy leaves are so unchanging;
O Christmas Tree! O Christmas Tree!
Thy leaves are so unchanging;
Not only green when summer's here,
But also when 'tis cold and drear.
O Christmas Tree! O Christmas Tree!
Thy leaves are so unchanging!

RO

O, brad frumos, o, brad frumos,
Cu cetina tot verde,
O, brad frumos, o, brad frumos,
Cu cetina tot verde,
Tu eşti ciopacul credincios,
Ce frunza nu şi-o pierde.
O, brad frumos, o, brad frumos,
Cu cetina tot verde

2. White flowers / Florile Dalbe

EN

Wake up, host, from your li'l bed
Flowers of white
And give us a bagel
Flowers, flowers of white

RO

Școală, gazdă, din pătuț,
Florile dalbe.
Și ne dă un colăcuț,
Florile, florile dalbe.

3. Santa Claus with His White Hair / Moş Crăciun cu plete dalbe\

EN

Santa Claus with his white hair
Has arrived through the snow drifts
Bringing lots of gifts
For little girls and boys.

Santa Claus, Santa Claus!

RO

Moş Crăciun cu plete dalbe
A sosit de prin nămeţi
Şi aduce daruri multe
La fetiţe şi băieţi

Moş Crăciun, Moş Crăciun
