Dear community,

Are you new to the community and unsure what the Icelandic Learning Community and Resources is all about? No need to worry! In this post you will find all we have on offer for Icelandic learners just like you!

What you need to know
OLS is not just a package of courses, nor is it just the language assessment you were asked to take. What it is, is a community filled with peers who are on a similar language learning journey as you!

Besides some more formal courses, you can read the blog that dives deeper into several topics covering language and culture, you can participate in the forums, you can join contest and win some really cool prizes!

Take the courses
To get started with taking the courses you will need to complete the language assessment to determine your level of Icelandic. Once completed, you will be recommended one of the courses, like these, My Icelandic Course A2, Íslenska fyrir ferðaþjónustu and many more. If you are ready for more, you can explore the additional courses by using the curriculum tab at the bottom of the landing page

Engage in the forums
This community has three main forums and a fourth one for the contest, where, among other things, you can ask questions, connect with your peers, practice your language skills and share your experiences abroad. These main forums are:

While the community manager is here to keep the discussions going and facilitate participation, feel free to create your own threads and discuss whichever subject interests you. But first, why don't you start by introducing yourself here?

Read the blog
We publish articles about Icelandic language learning in general on a regular basis. Our goal is to develop useful and interesting content for every language level. The blogs are available in the OLS Blogsection, which is located within the Interactions category on the homepage, just below the forums.

As a final note
In this community, everyone is welcome. Our only request is that whatever is said, it is done with regard to other people’s feelings, so we create a safe and welcoming space for everyone! A small ray of positivity and kindness goes a long way! And we definitely want a welcoming, uplifting and joyful space.

If you’re unsure about anything, you can read our house rules here

On that note, we wish you an inspiring and fulfilling learning journey here with us. See you in the community!
