Welcome, friends!

For those of us in the northern hemisphere, we're still in the very teeth of winter and this time of year is just as good a time as any to explore the historic gems of Dublin! So, come along on this winter wonderland journey to discover how you can make the museums of Dublin part of your winter itinerary.

And remember, ALL National museums of Ireland are free! Read more here.

THE FOUR NATIONAL MUSEUMS

Museum Of Archaeology

On a recent excursion to Dublin, I had the chance to wander the cavernous halls of the Museum of Archaeology and I highly recommend you do the same if you haven't yet. Perhaps you will find the several thousand-year-old preserved bog bodies just as fascinating as I did. Or perhaps the Egyptian tombs and artifacts might be to your liking. Traipse through the Viking halls to discover how Viking history is an integral part of Irish history. Begin exploring here.

Natural History

Discover why this museum is called “The Dead Zoo”! With 160 years in the making, this museum is a Victorian-era collection of flora and fauna from Ireland and beyond. The brass and glass display cases are art in and of themselves. Check out these cool 3D interactive, virtual videos to take a close look at some of the exhibits to get a head start before going to the museum in person!

Decorative Arts & History

At this museum on the former military site, Collins Barracks; you’ll be impressed by the very architecture that houses the art and artifacts inside. Explore the decorative arts of silver, ceramics, glassware, furniture, clothing, jewelry, and coins. Don't stop there, delve into the military history collection that showcases Ireland’s military and revolutionary past. Get started here.

Country Life

And we round out the fourth with the good ol’ Museum of Country Life. With this museum, I can almost guarantee you will not want to go home! Haha! Between the Victorian gardens, the greenhouse, and the built heritage found in architecture like Turlough Park House, it will feel like you’ve been transported to a bygone era. Whet your country-life appetite, by clicking here.

(Note: this is the one museum NOT in Dublin.)

SO, ARE YOU READY TO GO? EXCELLENT!

Now that you’ve had a taste of the four museums, let us if you’ve been to any. Remember friends, they are all free and you can enjoy free, guided tours. Grab your friends and spend the entire day in at least one of these marvelous museums!

Good Tip: There are at least 40 other museums in Dublin alone, so if there are other museums that you think we should know about, we’d love to hear about it. All you have to do is click reply below!
