If you have read today’s blogpost about the Norwegian school system, you have come across the following expression: 

Det viktigste er ikke å vinne, men å delta / What is most important is not to win, but to participate

The saying is commonly heard in schools and playgrounds, but also at sport events. It is used to motivate children to try new things, but also to remove the competitive aspects of a game.
