Happy International Mother Language Day Today!
According to a UNESCO publication, around 3,000 languages could disappear before the end of the century, at a rate of one every two weeks.
Of the 7,000 languages currently spoken in the world, 6,700 are indigenous, and it is precisely these that are most threatened.
On February 21, the UN celebrates International Mother Language Day to highlight that languages and multilingualism can foster inclusion.
The
idea to celebrate International Mother Language Day was the initiative
of Bangladesh. It was approved at the 1999 UNESCO General Conference and
has been observed throughout the world since 2000.
Using
the occasion, I want to ask you - people in the Bulgarian communities -
what is your mother language? Let's count the diversity! Leave your comments below.
