World Theatre Day 2024 #Slovenia
March 27th has been observed as World Theatre Day since 1962, and for speakers of Slovene, theatre is a crucial factor in preserving Slovene culture, particularly the Slovene language, through oral tradition.
In Slovenia, this day traditionally marks the beginning of the Week of Slovene Drama, now in its 54th edition this year, and the Association of Drama Artists of Slovenia (ZDUS) presents awards. On World Theatre Day, an international message circulates the globe, written by a selected theater creator invited by the International Theatre Institut for this purpose.
In addition to the international message, which is read at special theater events or before performances worldwide (including in Slovenia), many countries also mark World Theatre Day with national messages. This year, the Association of Drama Artists of Slovenia asked director Žiga Divjak to write the Slovene message, which is available (in Slovene) at this link. The author of this year's international message is Norwegian writer and playwright Jon Fosse.
How did you celebrate World Theatre Day this year in Slovenia? Or perhaps we will only do so now over the weekend—what Slovene theatre are we headed to? Share with us!
