Hello, everyone!
May 9th is a significant day in Europe as we celebrate Europe Day! It marks the anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, made by French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman in 1950. The declaration proposed the creation of a European Coal and Steel Community, which became a foundational step towards the European Union we know today. Europe Day serves as a celebration of peace and unity on the continent.
This day also coincides with the beginning of the Eurovision Song Contest! Eurovision is one of Europe's most cherished traditions, bringing together artists from across the continent (and beyond) to compete in a lively and entertaining song contest. This year the contest takes place in Malmö, Sweden and started on May 7th with the first semi-final, and finishes with the grand final on May 11th.
