Eurovison Song Contest of 2024 is over, and Norway can celebrate that we made it to.. *drum roll*

Last place!

Wait what?

It came to a huge surprise to us Norwegians that no other country liked our song. Gåte is an acknowledged band in Norway, and had their break through over 10 years ago. It is a particular kind of music, but we are convinced it also has a certain quality. Yet, we have made mistakes before.

All cards on the table: Norway holds the record of getting the last place the most times in all of Eurovisions history. With this year, we have gotten last place 12 times! Four out of these times we did not get a single point.

That said, we have also won quite a few times. And the last song I will present is also the biggest ESC score in history. Maybe you have heard it before?

Our first win was in 1960, when Nora Brocksted performed «Voi Voi». This song is in Norwegian, and is about a young women sending a kind remider to her date, to make sure that he shows up.

In 1985, Bobbysocks brought home the win, with «la det swinge». Although most of the lyrics are in Norwegian, hip eighties words like «swingin» and «rock`n roll» are central themes.

10 years later, in 1995, this magical and epic melody, Nocturne by Secret Garden mezmerized the Eurovision audience.

And of course, the most epic win, Alexander Rybak with «Fairytale». He still holds the record amount of votes in Eurovision history. A week after the finals Fairytale became one of three most selling singles in Europe, together with Black Eyed Peas and Lady Gaga.

We are also sending our congratulations to Switzerland for winning this year’s contest. And just to have it mentioned, Norwegian song writer Lasse Midtsian Nymann did contribute in writing the winning song.
