Hey OLS Community!
We’ve got some surprising weather news! Just when we thought summer was finally here, a big snowstorm hit the northern parts of Iceland last week. While the north was dealing with snow, gale-force winds, rain, and sleet, the southern regions enjoyed relatively nice weather. Talk about contrasts!
What Happened:
- Northern Iceland: Experienced a major snowstorm with orange weather alerts issued. There was heavy snowfall and strong winds up to 23 meters per second, making travel difficult and dangerous. Mountain roads became impassable, and residents had to secure their properties and livestock.
- Southern Iceland: Enjoyed kind of good weather, highlighting just how unpredictable Iceland’s climate can be.
Many roads in the north were unsafe, so it was crucial to check weather and road conditions before heading out in that scenario. People got trapped for a few days in some towns.
Stay safe out there and always keep an eye on the weather forecasts, especially with Iceland’s ever-changing climate!
Where were you when the storm hit Icelad?
Do you know someone who was in the north "enjoying the weather"?
